Spore Space was an artist-run project space in Ojai, California operated and organized by Rosemary Hall , Kira Doutt, and Elizabeth Herring. It was located in-between Serendipity Toys and Ojai Valley Real Estate offices (the old English Pantry). Over the years it existed it grew and shrank in size from one window, to both windows, back to one window again.
Spore was a placeholder for open-ended artistic experimentation and community connection and a direct line between artists and visible public space in downtown Ojai. Our window offered the ability to share work to a an audience of passersby.
My motivations for providing a space for artists in Ojai included creating a dynamic intergenerational meeting ground for people in the area during a time of intense residential turnover due to the rise in cost of living for Ventura County.
